I love coffee and whenever I walk into a Starbucks to get a Tall Skinny Vanilla Latte, I always look at the variety of merchandizes they have. You never know, sometimes you can get some great deals here, like those nice SB coffee cups for half the price. This time as I walked into SB at the University Village in Los Angeles- across the street is USC ("Trojans, Fight On!") - a book caught the attention of my eyes. On the cover of the book it had a question which was; "Where will you be five years from today?"
While I waited in line I took the book and opened it, the first question allready had me thinking, but on the following page challenging words were placed, it seems like those words spoke to me personally.

This is your life, your one-and-only life. Over the next five years, what do you really want to do? What do you really want to have? What do you really want to be? Where do you really want to go? There are no rules here. This is not a work book, it's a play book. This is not a "here's how" book, it's a "why not?" book. So be daring, be bold and true to yourself!

"This is a perfect book for Robert", was my second thought (Robert is a young man that I know for over 6 years, on fire for God and intentional about the rest of his life serving God). I got him the book, and one copy for myself. The next few weeks I drove to several SB location to pick up an additional 5 copies for men that play a very special role in my personal life. If you find something good, make sure you share it.

This book is my 'play book', I read it together with the Bible, as a devotional 'side kick'. I put notes in it, quotes, thoughts, pictures, dreams etc...I want my life to be a journey, that turns into an adventure, which will become a quest.
But the most important thing I put on the first page of this book was Matthew 6:33; "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." and Proverbs 16:3; "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed."
See I want to reach my full potential, I want to live a significant live and I want to reach my destiny, but I want to make sure that all is 'In Christ!'

I hope you find yourself a copy and get one or more for those 'instrumental' people within your live, let's see where we will be in 2014.

God Bless and 'Bon Voyage' for the next 5 years of the rest of your life...

Great blog Pastor Patrick (and for those reading this comment, please look forward to Pastor Patrick's book in the near future). It seems like Pastor Patrick is so great at sharing whatever God is doing in his life, his influence is so contagiuos. So if you're not convinced already, take my word for it...this book will really help you position yourself for success in the next five years. I can't believe that I'm barely reading this book now. I first saw this book at a Starbucks with Pastor Patrick...it caught my attention from the front cover. On my birthday it blew me away that Pastor Patrick would give me this book...but since then i have really tried to take the time to refocus my future. This book will help you set your values in order, write your own personal mission statement, jot down some goals and begin to think about things that will really help you get where you want to go. Pastor Patrick, thank you for always helping me get to where God wanted me to go. (I'm sure I'm not the only one that can say that.)

Reading this , Pastor Patrick reminded me of the time I walked with you to the bank while in Bridgeport, I think this is the first time you got me to talk, You had asked me this very question. The strange thing is is it will almost be five years since that discussion (more like 4). I have some regrets ....Learning from those mistakes is shaping me today so that by 2014, I can say that I have been to other parts of the world that I have gone all out for the Gospel. There are some countries close to my heart that I would like to go to.

Hi Pastor Patrick. I was there that night at the utc when students and families came to celebrate Thanksgiving and you presented Robert with the book. Raylene and I were so interested she bought Pastor Joe Burton a copy for his birthday the next day. As we both looked through the book I decided not only did I personally need a copy but so do my disciples. We run a gang girl discipleship home in my house and I believe so strongly in these young women setting goals for themselves and seeing their lives with visionary eyes. If not, living in the discipleship home is just monitered behavior. Thank the Lord for Christmas money! I plan to buy as many copies...

Thanks for sharing....
Please tell sister Cindy I said hello!

yes the 5 book is very contagious! after that thanksgiving party at the UTC when Pastor Patrick showed me this book i literally went to the nearest Starbucks and bought a copy for my youth Pastor, Pastor Joe and the next day picked one up for myself and my mom....and last week i went to buy more but hey were all sold out (pastor P probably bought them all) we often tell God he can do whatever with our lives and wait for him to do all the work..he clearly mad us intelligent enough to think ..dream and pursue..this book simply puts the practical into perspective..keepin us balanced on our quest with the Lord!thanks again Pastor Patrick and great blog!
